What am I even doing? This game is massive and complex and I had enough trouble writing about my playthrough of Vantage. But I will do my best, I have the Tru’ng bot to play against, and some software that someone wrote to help process the spaces when I get lost. I shuffled up the pivotal event cards to choose which faction I should play, and ended up with the Viet Cong. ...
Round 2 Current Event: LRRP US VC ARVN NVA On Deck Event: Coup! Nguyen Cao Ky The first event is LRRP. This is the background the game gives on this event: Veteran or specially trained forces often augmented with Vietnamese irregulars usually carried out Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols into enemy territory. The Studies and Observation Group or SOG was the ground element of the US air war against the Ho Chi Minh Trail as illustrated by Project Tiger that spotted for and marked enemy trail activity for prosecution by US air assets. ...
I have started a playthrough of Fire in the Lake as the Viet Cong! You can read about it here « Back to Posts 30th Nov 2025
Welcome to episode one of me playing Vantage and then writing about it for nobody to read. The first part of the game is always the same; the ship is en-route to some planet, things mysteriously go wrong, we crash land on the planet. I randomly assigned myself characters and skills, and ended up playing as Emelien, The Scholar, which means I gained an engage skill token. ...
Welcome to a blog about me playing Vantage and then writing about it for nobody to read. While a single turn in Vantage is pretty quick, taking maybe a minute or two maximum, where the majority of that time is spent finding the correct card and matching book, writing down what I did and then writing it here takes far longer. Read about the first playthrough here! « Back to Posts ...
I have acquired a copy of Vantage, the latest Stonemaier Games production. It is a bit of a weird one. The game seems to be mostly like No Man’s Sky before all the missing content was patched in. That is to say, it is a first-person exploration game where you mill about on a planet after having crash-landed, and discover … stuff. What kind of stuff? Well, I don’t know as I haven’t played it too much. One time I found a dragon. Another time I found some some gems. Another time I found a flower. ...
I just finished playing a long game of Fate of the Fellowship (i.e. Lord of the Rings: Pandemic). Go read about it here. Immediately. « Back to Posts 19th August 2025
Whoa, day four of actually playing this single game of Fate of the Fellowship. It is nearly over, and to be fair to myself, the majority of the time has actually been writing this blog about it. I know no one will actually read it, but it is making the game more interesting for me. Turn 21 Actions (Frodo, Sam, Legolas) Well, I think I am going to have to leg it from Rohan to Gondor, so it’ll need to be four moves for the hobbits. ...
Turn 13 Actions (Frodo, Sam, Legolas) Legolas’ actions: Walk Silently: +1 stealth token Sure Shot on Moria: Removes 1 shadow troop Travel from Gladden Fields to Moria, bringing 3 elven troops along Attack Moria Shift Eye to Misty Mountains Roll one die: Exchange, remove 1 elven troop and 1 shadow troop Frodo and Sam’s action: Prepare: discard Mordor, +1 valor token Turn 13 Player Cards Rohan Gondor Turn 13 Shadow Cards Reinforce Umbar +1 shadow troop in Umbar Move two Nazgûl closer to Frodo (two move from Mirkwood to Dale) Reinforce Núrn +1 shadow troop in Núrn Shift Eye to Frodo’s region (Dale) Reinforce Dunland +1 shadow troop in Dunland Deploy 3 Nazgûl from Mordor to the Eye Move one from Mordor to Dale Move two from Rohan to Dale Dale is a tiny region that now has five Nazgûl flying over the hobbits’ heads. ...
